DHAKA, Aug 22, 2026 (BSS)- BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy today said the government is working tirelessly for the welfare and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.

"Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has strengthened plans for the rehabilitation of persons with disabilities. Under his leadership, the government is working to build a healthy, beautiful and disability-friendly society," he said.

He made the remarks while addressing a wheelchair distribution ceremony as the chief guest at the Keraniganj Intellectually Disabled and Autistic School in Keraniganj.

Students of the school participated in the event.

Gayeshwar said children with disabilities often face physical limitations due to congenital or natural causes, but appropriate training, technological support and medical services can help them become active members of mainstream society.

He called on wealthy business people and financially capable individuals to come forward and engage in humanitarian activities.

"Assistance in this noble cause can bring positive changes to society," he said.

He also urged journalists and media houses to uphold professional principles while reporting the news.

Highlighting positive developments in society, rather than creating sensationalism or unnecessary controversy, would encourage more people to engage in welfare-oriented activities, he added.

Keraniganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Omar Faruk presided over the event while BNP Executive Committee Member Nazim Uddin Master and Joint Convener of Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS) Md Ahsan Ullah Chowdhury attended as special guests.

Founder and Head Teacher of the Keraniganj Intellectually Disabled and Autistic School Dr Md Zakir Hossain (Masum) and Nasir Uddin Ahmed Mirza were also present.

Following the discussion, the guests handed over wheelchairs to the children with disabilities.

Later, the guests were presented with crests of honour.
