DHAKA, Aug 20, 2026 (BSS) - Opposition Leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on being elected the 23rd President of the country.

In a congratulatory message today, Rahman extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Fakhrul.

"The President is a symbol of national unity. The President has an important role to play in advancing democracy in the country, establishing the rights of the people and justice, and upholding independence and sovereignty," he said.

He hoped the newly elected President, drawing on his long political experience, competence and wisdom, would rise above partisan considerations and play a responsible role in upholding the Constitution and the rule of law, establishing justice, and strengthening national unity.

The opposition leader also hoped that Fakhrul will work to establish equality, human dignity and social justice.

He wished the newly elected President good health, long life and every success in discharging his responsibilities as head of state.
