PM’s physician visits injured Dr Asad

DHAKA, Aug 19, 2026 (BSS)- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s Assistant Personal Physician Dr ANM Monowarul Kadir Bitu today visited Professor Dr Md Asadur Rahman at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Prof Dr Asadur Rahman, head of the ENT Department at DMCH, came under attack at Shantinagar area in the capital on the night of August 17.

During the visit Dr Bitu enquired about physical condition and discussed the overall treatment of Dr Asadur Rahman with DMCH Director Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman and duty doctors.

After visiting the injured Asadur Rahman, Dr Bitu said such barbaric attacks on physicians could not be tolerated under any circumstances. 

“Such undesirable incidents seriously disrupt the normal environment of healthcare services in the country and create a severe sense of insecurity among doctors, which is highly concerning,” he said.

During the visit, Dr Bitu also spoke with family members of Dr Asadur Rahman and expressed sympathy to them.

The family members requested the Prime Minister to enact the ‘Health Workers Protection Act’ as soon as possible to ensure the safety and security of the healthcare professionals.
