THAKURGAON, Aug 19, 2026 (BSS) - A new chapter in higher education of science and technology in northern Bangladesh is set to begin with the government’s approval of the Eco University of Science and Technology (EUST) in Thakurgaon.
The university is being established at the initiative of Eco Social Development Organization (ESDO), a private development organization.
According to a press release issued by ESDO on Wednesday, the proposed university aims to go beyond conventional higher education by serving as a hub for skilled human-resource development, research, technological innovation and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Md. Shahid Uz Zaman, founder of EUST and executive director of ESDO, said they had been nurturing the dream of establishing a high-quality science and technology university in Thakurgaon for many years.
“We are delighted to receive state approval and are grateful to the government,” he said.
Professor Abu Bakar Siddique, a prominent educationist in Thakurgaon, described the initiative as a historically significant step toward transforming the district into an education hub.
ESDO said it would also focus on expanding inclusive higher education opportunities for talented, female, disadvantaged and financially underprivileged students.
The organization plans to establish academic and research partnerships with universities, research institutions and industries at home and abroad.
Stakeholders hope the establishment of EUST will bring more than a new university to Thakurgaon. They believe it could help create a new ecosystem of knowledge, research and innovation in northern Bangladesh.
