DHAKA, Aug 11, 2026 (BSS) — A preparatory meeting was held today at the Cabinet Room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban ahead of the Presidential Election 2026, scheduled to be held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on August 20.
Acting Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, MP, chaired the meeting.
Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Md Nurul Islam, MP, Opposition Chief Whip Md Nahid Islam, MP, and Whips Alhaj Md G K Gaus, MP, Rakibul Islam Bokul, MP, Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, MP, Md Akhteruzzaman Mia, MP, and A B M Ashraf Uddin (Nijan), MP, attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Acting Speaker Kayser Kamal said all spheres of the state structure must be freed from fascism.
He termed the Presidential Election 2026 a “historic juncture” in building a fascism-free Bangladesh, said a press release of parliament secretariat.
The meeting approved, with necessary amendments, the proceedings concerning the use of the Parliament session chamber for holding the Presidential Election 2026, provision of necessary logistical support and ensuring the attendance of Members of Parliament (MPs).
The meeting also advised completing all necessary logistical arrangements and preparations for the election.
According to the election schedule announced by the Bangladesh Election Commission, the Presidential Election 2026 will be held at the Parliament chamber on August 20, 2026.
Under Section 3 of the Presidential Election Act, 1991, the Chief Election Commissioner will conduct the election.
Parliament Secretariat Secretary Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed and senior officials concerned of the Parliament Secretariat were present at the meeting.
