DHAKA, Aug 10, 2026, (BSS) - The government has extended the validity of licences for private hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centres, dental clinics and medical check-up centres from one year to two years.

The decision was disclosed through an office order signed today by Director of Hospitals and Clinics of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Md Nurul Islam.

The office order said the decision was taken following a directive from the Private Health Management-1 Branch of the Health Services Division under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The new rule will come into effect from the 2026-2027 fiscal year.

Several specific conditions have been set for obtaining and renewing licences.

Payment of fees: Applicants must deposit the two-year licence fee and VAT together into the government treasury and apply through the HSM website.

Environmental clearance: For obtaining a new licence, a location clearance certificate or environmental clearance certificate from the Department of Environment must be obtained.

Narcotics licence: Institutions that use narcotic drugs must obtain a narcotics licence after receiving a new licence.

Regular monitoring: The Department of Environment and the Department of Narcotics Control will monitor the updated licences under their respective jurisdictions.

Besides, officials of the Directorate General of Health Services, divisional directors (health), civil surgeons, and upazila health and family planning officers will regularly inspect the health service institutions. If any irregularity or violation is found during inspections, the licence will be suspended or cancelled.
