DHAKA, Aug 10, 2026 (BSS)-The Youth and Sports Ministry has embarked upon a plan to improve sports facilities in the City Corporation and union levels across the country, with a target of developing 4,599 new playgrounds.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque chaired a meeting at the ministry today (Monday), attended by administrators and chief executive officers of all city corporations, who presented their views and plans for improving sports facilities in their respective areas.
The State Minister said there was no alternative to sports in building a physically and mentally healthy future generation.
He said the long-term plan was adopted in line with the Prime Minister's election manifesto. Various timely measures, including sports stipends, are being implemented to establish sports not merely as entertainment but as a profession.
Aminul also highlighted the success of the first edition of “Notun Kuri Sports,” a nationwide talent identification programme, and said registration for its second edition is currently underway.
Under the proposed infrastructure plan, one playground will be built for every two to three wards in each city corporation, while every ward will have a modern futsal ground. The Youth and Sports Ministry will provide necessary support to implement the plan.
The government also plans to establish one playground in every union to expand sports opportunities in rural areas. The initiative aims to create a total of 4,599 new playgrounds across the country.
