DHAKA, Aug 10, 2026 (BSS) - Admission to Class XI at higher secondary level will be conducted online based on students' GPA scores in the SSC and equivalent examinations and their preferred choice of colleges, with no admission test or lottery.

There are around 25 lakh seats available for HSC admission across the country, while the admission process is expected to be completed by September 15, said Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee President and Dhaka Education Board Chairman Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman.

He disclosed the information while answering questions from journalists at a press conference held at the Ministry of Education at the Secretariat today following the publication of the results of the SSC and equivalent examinations.

"The admission process will be completed by September 15 and classes for the new academic year will begin immediately afterwards," he said.

The date for the start of classes will be announced soon through a notification, he added.

Regarding the number of available seats, Syed Akhtaruzzaman said there are around 25 lakh seats at the HSC level across the country.

"Last year, 58.7 percent of these seats were filled, while around 41.3 percent remained vacant," he said.

He expected the number of vacant seats to increase further this year in proportion to the number of eligible students.

Explaining the admission procedure, he said no student would be admitted through a lottery or admission test. Under the existing system, students will be allocated colleges and seats based on their GPA scores in the SSC and equivalent examinations and the order of preference stated in their applications.

He said the schedule and timeline for Class XI admission have already been set and a detailed notification and admission policy would be issued soon.
