DHAKA, Aug 09, 2026 (BSS) - Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the tragic death of seven Bangladeshi migrant workers from Atrai upazila of Naogaon in a devastating fire at a sofa factory in Saudi Arabia.
In a condolence message today, the minister said, "The untimely and tragic death of our expatriate brothers working in faraway Saudi Arabia for their livelihood is extremely heartbreaking. Their contribution to the country's economy is immense."
"I am deeply saddened by their sudden demise and express my profound sympathy to the bereaved family members of the deceased," he added.
The minister said constant communication is being maintained with the accident site and local authorities through the Bangladesh Embassy in Saudi Arabia.
He said relevant officials have been instructed to ensure the speedy repatriation of the bodies of the deceased Bangladeshi migrant workers and provide all necessary government assistance and compensation to their families.
