HATHAZARI, Chattogram, Aug 9, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today visited the grave of late Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi at Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasa (Hathazari Madrasa) here.

The Prime Minister arrived at the madrasa around 5:50pm and visited the grave of Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, where he recited Fateha and prayed for his departed soul. 

Then he exchanged greetings with the ulema. Before leaving the madrasa, the premier shook hands and exchanged greetings with the students on the madrasa grounds.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin, Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam, Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman and Principal of the madrasa Maulana Khalil Ahmed Qureshi were present at the time.

Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi passed away on September 18, 2020. He was a prominent senior figure in the country's Qawmi madrasa community and served as the Director-General of the Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam, one of the country's major Qawmi madrasas, for around three and a half decades.

Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi also served as the founding Ameer of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh. His role in various issues concerning Islam, Qawmi education and socio-religious affairs drew considerable attention in the country's religious community.

Before visiting Shah Ahmad Shafi's grave, the Prime Minister travelled by road from Hathazari to Fatikchhari, where he visited Al-Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Ulum Babunagar Madrasa and met Allama Muhibbullah Babunagari, Ameer of Hefazat Islam Bangladesh and principal of Al-Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Ulum Babunagar Madrasah in Fatikchhari.
