RAJSHAHI, Aug 9, 2026 (BSS)- First-year student of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at Rajshahi University, Zahidul Islam Simon, who became critically ill after suffering a stroke, has been sent to Dhaka by air ambulance for advanced treatment.
He was taken to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka from the field adjacent to the hostel of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital at around 10:30 am today.
Earlier, Simon fell suddenly ill while staying in the dormitory on Saturday night.
According to his classmates, his body became stiff after he fell from his bed while sleeping. Without understanding what was happening, they quickly took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Later, on the advice of doctors and teachers, he was shifted to the ICU.
Simon's classmate Sourav said they later learned from doctors that Simon had suffered a stroke.
They also learned from doctors that he had suffered two strokes before.
As the facilities for necessary treatment and surgery at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital are limited, it was decided to take him to Dhaka for better treatment.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Faridul Islam, said that as soon as the news of the student's illness was received, the university administration arranged for an ICU.
According to the doctors' advice, a quick decision was made to take him to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
As it would take a long time by road, he was sent to Dhaka by air ambulance to avoid risk.
The Vice-Chancellor further said that arrangements have been made for his advanced treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in the capital.
He has asked everyone to pray for the speedy recovery of student Simon.
