RAJSHAHI, Aug 09, 2026 (BSS) – A total of 370 closed-circuit cameras are being installed at important points in Rajshahi metropolitan area to prevent all sorts of criminal activities including theft, snatching, robbery, extortion and harassment.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) has taken the initiative to install the new CCTV cameras at different important points and intersections in the metropolis as they these state of art cameras can play an effective role in identifying criminals.  

Sources familiar with the development said, some CCTV cameras are being procured by the RMP itself and some cameras are donated by the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC).

RCC has already handed over 155 state-of-the-art CCTV cameras to the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP). Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton formally handed over the cameras to Metropolitan Police Commissioner Faizul Kabir at a ceremony here recently.

Besides, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police authorities have already procured and installed 215 CC cameras, said Spokesperson of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gaziur Rahman here.

These cameras will keep round-the-clock surveillance across the city. The cameras will be operated through a control center. The aim is to ensure that no criminal can hide himself after committing a crime.

RMP Commissioner Faizul Kabir said, in this era of technology, CC cameras work as a very effective tool for identifying criminals.

“We are spreading a network of CC cameras across the city. It will be possible to rein in crime. Criminals escape through some route or other after committing a crime.”

It will be easy to identify them on CC cameras. The state-of-the-art cameras will work both as preventive and detective in preventing crimes.
 
Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton said, “We are working to ensure citizen security. We want to work based on the needs of the people.”

State-of-the-art CC cameras have been provided to RMP for the safety of the city dwellers. “We will work collectively to build a safe and peaceful metropolis.”

He pledged further cooperation from the City Corporation to RMP.
