Ex-Navy chief Mahbub Ali Khan's death anniversary observed

DHAKA, Aug 6, 2026 (BSS) – The 42nd death anniversary of former Chief of Naval Staff and minister Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan, father-in-law of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and father of Dr Zubaida Rahman, was observed through various programmes.

Mahbub Ali Khan made immense contributions to the country during his tenure as Chief of Naval Staff and as minister for communications and agriculture. On the occasion of his death anniversary, various programmes were held at home and abroad to pay tribute to his extraordinary life marked by honesty, dedication, hard work, charity and sacrifice.

On the occasion, his two daughters, Shahina Khan Zaman and Dr Zubaida Rahman, along with his granddaughter Barrister Zaima Rahman and other family members, placed floral wreaths at his grave this morning.

The family visited the Banani Military Cemetery in the morning, where they paid tribute by placing floral wreaths on his grave and offered munajat. A Quran recitation and doa mahfil were held at the cemetery premises.

A doa mahfil was also held after Maghrib prayers at his residence, "Mahbub Bhaban," in Dhanmondi.

Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan assumed the post of Chief of Naval Staff of the Bangladesh Navy in 1979. Later, he served in the cabinet of President Ziaur Rahman's government. He passed away on August 6, 1984.

In the morning, floral wreaths were placed on Mahbub Ali Khan's grave on behalf of the Bangladesh Navy, and food was distributed among the underprivileged.

After Zuhr prayers, doa mahfil were held at various naval mosques in memory of the deceased. Naval personnel participated in special munajat seeking forgiveness for his departed soul.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan also paid tribute by placing a floral wreath at Mahbub Ali Khan's grave at the Banani Military Cemetery this morning.

After paying tribute, the DNCC administrator participated in a special munajat seeking forgiveness for the departed soul of Mahbub Ali Khan.

On the occasion, a doa mahfil was organised at "Surbhi", an institution for underprivileged children and adolescents.

Special munajat were organised at various mosques in the capital, including the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. Quran recitation (khatam), doa mahfil and special munajat were also held at various orphanages and madrasas across the capital.

Meanwhile, after Zuhr prayers, a prayer and discussion session was held at his ancestral residence in Birahimpur of Sylhet district on behalf of the family.

Furthermore, after Asr prayers, Quran khatam, prayer gatherings and food distribution were organised on behalf of the family at the dargah mosques of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shah Paran (RA).
