RAJSHAHI, Aug 6, 2026 (BSS) - An exhibition titled 'National Tree Plantation Campaign Celebration 2026: Cassava Crop Inauguration and Food Use of Cassava' was held at Rajshahi University (RU).
The university's Institute of Biological Sciences (IBSc) organised the event at its research field this afternoon to promote the cultivation and conservation of fruit-bearing trees.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Faridul Islam attended the programme as the chief guest, while Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Md. Abdul Alim and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Mamunur Rashid were present as special guests.
IBSc Director Professor Parvez Hasan presided over the programme.
Teachers, researchers, officers and employees of the institute were present.
Experts and researchers highlighted the importance of cultivating and conserving fruit-bearing, medicinal and endangered plant species as part of the National Tree Plantation Campaign Celebration 2026. They also discussed cassava cultivation and its use as a food crop.
Meanwhile, the 'Mission and Vision Personalization Prize' of Porijon was awarded on the university campus.
The award ceremony was held at the conference room of the Administration Building, where Vice-Chancellor Professor Faridul Islam handed over prize cheques to the recipients.
Pro-Vice-Chancellors Professor Md. Abdul Alim and Professor Mamunur Rashid, along with Student Adviser Professor A H M Khurshid Alam, were also present.
Porijon provides scholarships to 357 meritorious and financially disadvantaged students of RU. Of them, 17 students received prize cheques in recognition of their outstanding performance in the Performance Assessment Review organised by Porijon.
