FARIDPUR, Aug 5, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam today said the July Uprising was not merely a movement over the quota system but a broader struggle against corruption, oppression and 17 years of enforced disappearances, killings and authoritarian rule.

She made the remarks as the chief guest at a public rally organised by the upazila BNP following a July Victory Rally at the Shaheed Akramunnesa Girls' High School ground in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur.

"This victory does not belong to any individual or political party; it belongs to the country's 180 million people," she said.

Shama also said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working to unite the people and advance the country's development.

The rally was presided over by Habibur Rahman Babu Talukder, former acting president of the Nagarkanda Upazila BNP.
