DHAKA, Aug 5, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across the country as the monsoon remains fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over the North Bay.

According to the latest weather bulletin, the axis of the monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan through Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Assam, passing across the northern part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs also extends into the North Bay.

For the 24-hour period commencing at 9:00 am today, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely to occur at most places in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

The Met Office also warned of moderately heavy to heavy rainfall at places across the country.

Day and night temperatures are expected to fall slightly nationwide due to the prevailing weather conditions.

On Tuesday, the country's highest temperature was recorded at 34.8 degrees Celsius in Tetulia, while today's lowest temperature was 23.7 degrees Celsius in Sylhet.

In Dhaka, the sun is expected to set at 6:39 pm today and rise at 5:30 am tomorrow.
