CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, Aug 4, 2026 (BSS) - A two-day art and graffiti exhibition and a children’s painting competition have been organized by the Chittagong University (CU) administration to mark the ‘July Mass Uprising Day-2026’.

CU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan inaugurated the art and graffiti exhibition at the CU Museum Gallery and the children’s painting competition at the CUCSU building this afternoon.

CU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Convener of the ‘July Mass Uprising Day-2026’ celebration committee Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Amin chaired the programme, while CU Proctor Prof. Dr. Hossain Shaid Shohrowardhy moderated it. CU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Admin) Prof. Dr. Md. Safiqul Islam attended the programme as a special guest.

Addressing the programme as the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan said, “We must never forget the events of July. During those terrible days, students of schools, colleges and universities dreamt of democracy, freedom of expression and a safe state, sacrificing their lives. The fact that we can speak freely today is the result of their sacrifices.”

He further said initiatives like children’s painting competitions are highly effective in presenting the history of the July Mass Uprising to the new generation. “The pictures the children are creating through their imagination and creativity prove that the spirit of July has found a place in their hearts,” he added.

In his presidential speech, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Amin said, “Today’s event is somewhat different. Our young students are not only painting pictures but also creating graffiti. They are expressing their imagination, feelings and patriotism through colours and brushes.”

“I believe such creative practices will play an important role in developing free thinking, human values and democratic consciousness among them. Through this event, they will also carry the message that the lessons of history and the values of freedom should never be forgotten by the next generation,” he added.
