CHATTOGRAM, Aug 1, 2026 (BSS)- State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. MA Muhith said the present government seeks to transform the nation's healthcare system through practical strategies. 
 
He said the government is committed to resolving the health challenges facing the country through pragmatic plans and initiatives. 
 
"We are addressing the accumulated issues stemming from two decades of institutional neglect, the deprivation experienced by the populace, and the crises that have arisen across various sectors and institutions," Dr Muhith elaborated. 
 
The state minister made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion meeting held at Shah Alam Bir Uttam Auditorium, organised with the faculty and students of Chattogram Medical College this afternoon. 
 
He pointed out that over the past 15 years, due to uncoordinated procurement of medical equipment, corruption, and a lack of strategic planning, medical devices worth crores of Taka have remained unused in numerous government hospitals across the nation. 
 
Dr Muhith emphasized that despite significant investments in the health sector over the last 15 years, the anticipated outcomes have not materialized due to poor planning and corruption. 
 
"While medical equipment valued in the hundreds of crores of Taka has been acquired, a majority of it remains idle. When visiting a hospital, one can observe that the packaging of equipment purchased a decade ago has not even been opened. Some facilities possess equipment, yet lack trained medical technologists to operate it. Others have equipment that cannot be utilized 
due to the absence of reagents or X-ray plates," he remarked. 
 
He asserted that the challenges within the health sector cannot be resolved solely by constructing new buildings or establishing additional medical colleges. 
 
Comprehensive planning, skilled personnel, and effective management are essential. It is impossible to provide modern medical services without a coordinated approach.
