DHAKA, July 30, 2026 (BSS) - Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam today said the benefits of digital technology must reach every citizen of the country.
 
He said it is essential to ensure that women, young people, persons with disabilities, the transgender community, and other marginalized groups can participate equally in Bangladesh's digital transformation and enjoy its benefits.

The minister made the remarks while addressing the inaugural session of a programme organized by telecom operator Grameenphone at a Banani hotel here.

Faqir, also minister for science and technology, said the government is making strides to expand digital connectivity across the country.

The government's key objectives are to promote meaningful digital inclusion, improve digital literacy, and develop a skilled workforce as part of its goal of transforming Bangladesh into a US$1 trillion economy by 2034, he added.

Calling for further expansion of telecommunications services in remote and underserved areas, the minister said no region should be left behind in the country's digital transformation journey. 

He emphasized that accessible communication services are essential for inclusive development and improving people's quality of life.

Referring to public concerns regarding telecommunications services, the minister urged mobile network operators to take effective measures to address issues such as call drops, network quality, and the pricing of voice and data packages.

He said while business growth is important, equal importance must be given to customers' expectations and interests. 

Ensuring affordable, uninterrupted, and high-quality services for customers should be the foremost priority of service providers, he added.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Major General Md Emdad Ul Bari (Retd.), Grameenphone Chief Executive Officer Yasir Azman, senior government officials, representatives of the private sector and representatives of development partner organizations were present.
