DHAKA, July 30, 2026 (BSS) – Sharmeen Akhter, a visually impaired of Satkhira district, at last got job as per the commitment made by Health and Family Welfare Minister during his visit to the Satkhira district hospital on July 26.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain handed over the appointment letter to Sharmeen Akhter formally at the health ministry conference room at secretariat here today.

Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Health Affairs Dr SM Ziauddin Hyder and director general (DG) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Pravath Chandra Biswas also were present during this time.

After receiving the appointment, visually impaired Sharmeen has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the health minister also. 

Sharmeen, who obtained graduate and post graduate degree from the government and politics department under the Jahangirnagar University, will join at the state-owned Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL) as the ‘junior officer’ on August 2.

A visually impaired young woman sought a job to the health minister during his visit. Her village home located at Paschim Koikhali of Shyamnagar Upazila under the Satkhira district.

Talking to the Media, Sharmeen in a tearful voice said “The health minister has committed to provide me a job after knowing my situation and he gave me a job within short time. Now I will be able to support my helpless family. I am expressing my sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the health minister for this reason.”

“She [Sharmeen Akhter] is very helpless. Her family has no any employed person and she had completed the higher education. I have committed to provide her a job and she got a job at EDCL”, said the health minister in his speech. 

Her employment will be confirmed after successfully completing a six-month probationary period, the minister added.

Speaking at the appointment letter handover programme, PM’s special assistant Dr SM Ziauddin Hyder said the job has been provided as per electoral pledges made by the present government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. 

According to the electoral pledges, every person with a disability will be provided with rehabilitation and they will be placed in suitable jobs according to their qualifications, abilities, and skills, said Dr Hayder.
