DHAKA, July 30, 2026 (BSS) - The government has formed a three-member high-level committee, headed by the Home Minister, to review the existing laws and regulations relating to building construction and urban development in the capital and make them more contemporary and effective.

A notification to this effect was issued yesterday by the Committee Affairs Branch of the Cabinet Division.

According to the notification, the committee has been constituted to review The Building Construction Act, 1952 and The Town Improvement Act, 1953, and to recommend necessary amendments, revisions and modifications to further strengthen the legal framework for implementing building regulations in Dhaka Metropolitan City.

The Home Minister has been made the chairman of the committee. The other members of the committee are the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and the Minister for Housing and Public Works.

The notification also said the committee may co-opt new members if necessary, and meetings will be held as required. The Ministry of Housing and Public Works will provide secretarial support to the committee.

The notification further said that proposed amendments to the relevant laws and regulations, based on the committee's recommendations, will be placed before the Cabinet meeting.
