DHAKA, July 29, 2026 (BSS)- Social Welfare Minister Prof Dr AZM Zahid Hossain has said the history of BNP is not a history of compromise and escapism; the history of the party is a history of resisting autocracy.

He said, “BNP practices politics for the people of the country and to protect the country's sovereignty. If the people remain united, conspirators will never succeed.”

Dr Zahid made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organized at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in the city to mark the 6th death anniversary of the late Shafiul Bari Babu, former Swechchhasebak Dal President.

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku and the late Shafiul Bari Babu's wife Member of Parliament Beethika Binte Hossain were present.

The event was presided over by Member of Parliament Abul Khayer Bhuiyan.

Dr Zahid called upon everyone not to put the country in danger by unnecessarily agitating people and opening the way for autocrats.

Recalling the memory of the late Shafiul Bari Babu, the minister said, Babu was an honest, dedicated, self-sacrificing, responsible, and devoted to the party.

Sultan Salauddin Tuku said, "Although I did not have a blood relationship with Babu, we had an ideological bond. During the anti-fascist movement for 17 years, we stood shoulder to shoulder on the streets together.”
