DHAKA, July 29, 2026 (BSS) - Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi today said New Delhi is eagerly looking forward to welcoming Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India and hoped the visit would take place soon.
"I think it is the Prime Minister's prerogative. But from our side, I can say that we are eagerly looking forward to welcoming the head of the Bangladesh government to India. We hope the visit will take place very soon," he said.
The Indian envoy made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after holding meetings with Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam.
Asked about the possible timing of the Prime Minister's visit to India, Trivedi said it would depend on the Bangladesh premier’s priorities.
The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 12-13.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to attend the summit as a special guest.
