DHAKA, July 29,2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister's Special Assistant for Health Affairs Dr SM Ziauddin Haider today said the nursing education curriculum of the country will be made time-befitting and modernized in accordance with the developed world aiming to generate employment in health sector.

The government has a target to generate nearly 1 crore employment within the next 3 to 5 years while the major part employment will come from the health sector particularly nurse, midwife and medical technologists.

Following his Philippines visit, the PM’s special assistant made this remark at a press briefing at his own office in the secretariat here.

A three-year professional Diploma course in Nursing Science & Midwifery is running  in the country. But the course is not accepted in most of the countries in the world, said Dr Haider.

To modernize the course, he said the government is planning to introduce 4-years bachelor degree through transforming the 3-years diploma course under bridging programme.

Even the government will set up high technology ‘skills lab’ and ‘simulation lab’ along with installation of modern audio-visual classrooms in 73 government nursing college and institutes across the country.

Moreover, the government has a plan to bring ‘master trainers’ from Philippines aiming to impart training to the nursing faculty and teachers, said the PM’s special assistant, adding that the government will soon formulate the necessary policy in order to operate four years bachelor course.

Necessary classrooms, land, infrastructure, skills lab and quality teachers also will be ensured under the policy, said the official.

The private nursing and medical colleges will get adequate certain time to improve their education quality. If they fail to improve their quality within the stipulated time then these institutes will be disqualified to confer degree and also will be unfit to enroll new students in their institutes.

To improve the quality of nursing education, the special assistant said the government has taken master plan to make skilled nurse in line with the model of Philippines.

To this end, the government is undertaking a mega project of nearly US$150 million with the financial and technical assistance by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Under the project, the government will modernize the nursing education quality of 73 government nursing colleges and Institutes.
