DHAKA, July 28, 2026 (BSS) - Shipping, Road Transport and Bridges, and Railways Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam has invited the Qatari government to invest in Bangladesh's port infrastructure development, including terminal construction, logistics, and related sectors.

He extended the invitation when Qatari Ambassador to Bangladesh Seraya Ali Al-Qahtani paid a courtesy call on the minister at his office at the Secretariat yesterday evening.

During the meeting, they held fruitful discussions on port development, maritime trade, logistics, investment and various issues of mutual interest with a view to further strengthening the existing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Qatar.

The minister said the current government is implementing extensive programmes to modernise the country's port infrastructure and enhance its capacity. 

He said the government is working to upgrade Chattogram, Mongla and Payra ports to international standards. 

In this context, he invited Qatar to invest in Bangladesh's port infrastructure development, terminal construction, logistics and related sectors.

Describing Qatar as a trusted friend of Bangladesh, the minister expressed hope that the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries would be further expanded through greater economic and trade cooperation in the coming days.

The Qatari ambassador highly appreciated the development of Bangladesh's port and shipping sector and expressed positive interest in the prospects for cooperation and investment in this field.

At the end of the meeting, both sides expressed their commitment to working together in the fields of ports, shipping, trade and investment, as well as other areas, for the mutual benefit of the peoples of Bangladesh and Qatar.

They also stressed the importance of maintaining regular communication and cooperation to take the existing friendly relations between the two countries to a new height.

Shipping Secretary Zakaria and senior officials of the ministry were present at the meeting.
