No alternative to sports to save youth from mobile and drug addiction: Anee

LAKSHIMIPUR, July 25, 2026 (BSS)- Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee today said that there was no alternative to sports to turn the youth away from the addiction to mobile phones and drugs.

“Alongside regular studies, sports play a vital role in developing students' intellect and mental growth,” he said while addressing prize distribution ceremony of the annual sports competition of Dattapara Ramratan Multilateral Ideal High School this afternoon.

The minister said that parents must be more aware and responsible in nurturing their children's talents and guiding them to the right path. 

"Parents must keep a close watch where their children are going, with whom they are mixing and how much time they are spending on mobile phones,” he added.

Anee also mentioned that the government is taking various initiatives for students and is working accordingly.

The minister further said misuse of digital devices and drugs are destroying the future generation. To free students from harmful addiction of drug and make them attentive to their studies, parents, teachers and society must work together,” he said. 

The event was presided over by the school management committee president M. Bellal Hossain while Chandragunj Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Nilufa Yasmin, Chandragunj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rab, Joint Convener of the district BNP Advocate Hasibur Rahman and  General Secretary of Chandragunj Upazila BNP M. Yusuf Bhuiya, among others, were present.
