RAJSHAHI, July 25, 2026 (BSS)- Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu has said just planting trees does not end the responsibility; it must be ensured that they are taken care of until they grow big.

He said protecting trees is more difficult than planting them. Therefore, he urged everyone to plant at least one tree and take care of it.
 
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 15-day Rajshahi Divisional Tree Fair at Nazrul Village in Rajshahi city today.

This year's theme of the fair is ‘Let's decorate the country by planting trees, Bangladesh first’. 
 
The Land Minister said the government is working to bring back the lost greenery. He expressed hope that goal will be achieved through combined efforts.
 
He said the example set by martyred President Ziaur Rahman for environmental protection through tree plantation is still memorable. 

Similarly, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia also took various programs for extensive plantation. At that time, Rajshahi was awarded at the national level. 
 
He said Rajshahi must be turned into a green city again. Trees must be planted wherever possible, including vacant spaces in the city. There is no alternative to tree plantation to protect the environment.
 
Minu said extensive tree plantation was done when he was the Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation. At that time the city was green. Rajshahi will be turned into a green city again through planned tree plantation.
 
Special guests who spoke at the event were Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, DIG of Rajshahi Range Ashik Sayeed, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Mohammad Foyezul Kabir and Additional Divisional Commissioner Habibur Rahman.

Administrator of Rajshahi Zila Parishad Advocate Ershad Ali Isha, Superintendent of Police of Rajshahi District Naimul Hasan and Rajshahi Divisional Forest Officer Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam also spoke.

The event was presided over by Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Kazi Shahidul Islam. 

Earlier, a colorful rally paraded through various roads. Some 52 stalls are participating in the fair. The fair will remain open to visitors every day from 9 am till night.
