Govt. extends passport issue; re-issue timeframe for expatriates till Dec 31

DHAKA, July 23,2026 (BSS) – The government has extended the timeframe of issuing and re-issuing of new passports after correcting information for the expatriate Bangladeshi citizens staying abroad for more six months.

“This special privilege according to the new decision will be effective till December 31”, said a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday.

The duration of the government order issued earlier has been extended more six months considering the peoples interest and keeping the passport related services for the Bangladeshi expatriates continue uninterrupted, said the notification.

With this latest order, Bangladeshi citizens staying abroad can apply for issuing and re-issuing of the passport based on their correct information like name, date of birth, parents name or other information if necessary within this stipulated timeframe.

The duration of the government order in this regard issued on July 8, 2025 and expired on June 30, 2026. 

The timeframe of the order has been extended up to December 31, according to the latest decision.

The decision will immediately come into effect  and instructed all agencies concerned to take necessary action.

The notification has already been conveyed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry, The Department of Immigration & Passports of the Ministry of Home Affairs, all the Bangladesh missions abroad and other concerned department.

This new order will paved an opportunity for many of the expatriates Bangladeshis who could not apply to amend the information of their passport within the stipulated time, to complete their necessary process within the new timeframe.

The order also make easier the passport related services for the expatriates and they [expatriates Bangladeshis] will be benefited in operating legal travelling and other administrative activities.
