CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, July 22, 2026 (BSS) - Chittagong University (CU) has
launched its year-long 'Nazrul Year' celebration with a seminar and musical
programmes, organised by the university administration this morning at the
Social Sciences Faculty Auditorium.

Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan attended the programme
as the chief guest while Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr. Mohammed Al-Amin and Dean
of the Faculty of Business Administration Prof Dr. Mohammad Saleh Jahur were
present as special guests.

Dr. Al-Forkan said, "Nazrul cannot be confined to a single identity. Some
describe him as the poet of love, some as the poet of separation, some as the
poet of the battlefield, some as the poet of equality, some as the poet of
religious harmony, and others as the poet of youth. He is also the poet of
protest, social reform and freedom. However you perceive him, you will find
Nazrul in that very form."

Dr. Al-Amin said, "A new struggle began for us in July. At that time, the
name of the poet most frequently invoked everywhere was Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Nazrul belongs to every section of the nation and its people. Whenever
injustice prevails in society, his poems naturally return to guide and
inspire us."

The programme was chaired by Pro-VC (Admin) Prof Dr. Md. Safiqul Islam and
moderated by Mishkatul Momtaz, chairman of the Music Department.

The keynote paper titled "National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam: Patriotism,
Humanism and Mass Awakening" was presented by Dr. Mohammad Nurul Amin, former
Prof of the Bangla Department at CU.

Dr. Nurul Amin said, "After his military service, as Nazrul emerged as a
poet, the depth of his patriotism became increasingly evident. His poems and
songs inspired mass awakening in the struggle for the liberation of colonial
India. Likewise, they inspired Bangladesh's Liberation War and even the July
Uprising of 2024."

The paper was discussed by Bangla Department Chairman Prof Dr. Mohammod Anwar
Sayed, Prof Dr. Taslima Begum and Director of the CU Nazrul Research Centre
Prof Dr. Mohammad Farid Uddin.

Later, renowned Nazrul Sangeet artiste Ferdous Ara performed at the musical
programme. Students of the university's Dramatics Department and Music
Department also presented special cultural performances.
