DHAKA, July 20, 2026 (BSS) - Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury today 
urged lawyers to present their cases before the courts properly, saying it is 
their legal, moral and ethical obligation to remain committed to that duty.
 
"Once you have taken up a case, you must remain committed to it. A litigant 
has engaged you professionally to represent them, so you are obliged to 
discharge your duty. It is your legal, moral and ethical responsibility. 
Judges will deliver the verdict. Your responsibility as a lawyer is to 
present your client's case properly before the court. Whether you win or lose 
is a different matter," he said.
 
The Chief Justice made the remarks while addressing a remembrance meeting and 
prayer ceremony held in memory of veteran politician and former Jatiya 
Sangsad Speaker Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar.
 
Organised by the Supreme Court (SC) Bar Association, the function was held at 
the Shaheed Shafiur Rahman Auditorium of the Supreme Court Bar Bhaban. 
 
Presided over by SC Bar Association President AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, MP, and 
conducted by its Secretary Mohammad Ali, the program was addressed by Law, 
Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman, Deputy Speaker 
Barrister Md Kaisar Kamal, Appellate Division Justice S M Emdadul Hoque, 
former president of SC Bar Association Advocate Zainul Abedin, BNP's law 
affairs secretary Barrister Badruddoza Badal and Nilufar Jamir, daughter of 
Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar.
 
Barrister Sircar's sons Barrister Nowshad Jamir, MP, and Barrister Nowfel 
Jamir were present on the occasion, among others.
 
Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman said Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar was one of the 
fortunate few who reached the pinnacle of success in every sphere of his 
life. 
 
"A person can hardly aspire to achieve more in a single lifetime. He was a 
Barrister, a six-time Member of Parliament, served as Minister of Education, 
Speaker of Parliament, and also as the Acting President of Bangladesh. We 
believe the life he lived and the ideals he upheld are worthy of emulation, 
and each of us should aspire to lead such a life," he said. 
 
Lauding the late speaker for his deep commitment to democracy, Deputy Speaker 
Barrister Md Kaisar Kamal said Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar always had a deep 
passion and unwavering commitment to preserving constitutional continuity, 
upholding the rule of law, and safeguarding fundamental rights.
 
"If we, as members of the legal profession, uphold the same respect for the 
courts that he did, only then will we truly appreciate the significance and 
legacy of Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar's illustrious life and work," he 
stated.
 
The programme concluded with a prayer and special munajat seeking eternal 
peace and divine forgiveness for the departed soul of Barrister Jamiruddin 
Sircar.
