DHAKA, July 20, 2026 (BSS)- Prime Minister Tareq Rahman has taken responsibility for the treatment of two-year-old Anifa Akter, who is suffering from a complex congenital disease.

Anifa Akter was born with a serious congenital illness, but her impoverished family is unable to bear the cost of her treatment.

After the matter was reported in the media, it came to the notice of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The Prime Minister then instructed his Additional Press Secretary, Atikur Rahman Ruman to gather detailed information about the family and ensure that the child receives the necessary medical assistance, said PM's Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony.

He said, following the Prime Minister's directive, a delegation led by Member Secretary of Amra BNP Poribar Agriculturist Moksedul Momin (Mithun) visited the child at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and Hospital today.

Prime Minister's Office (PMO) physician and renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Shah Mohammad Amanullah Aman accompanied him.

They discussed Anifa Akter's treatment with the doctors and decided to provide necessary medical care.

Rony said a five-member expert medical board led by Dr. Zahidul Islam, head of the Paediatric Cardiology Department at the NICVD reviewed Anifa Akter's overall physical condition, medical records, and diagnostic reports.

Following the review, the specialists concluded that the child's condition is extremely complex and critical, he added.

The deputy press secretary further said that the medical board has decided to present Anifa Akter's case to a specialist medical team from China once it arrives in Bangladesh.

He added that the next course of treatment will be determined based on a joint consultation between Bangladeshi specialists and the Chinese medical team. If necessary, a decision would also be made to send the child abroad for advanced treatment, Rony said.

He said the delegation also met Anifa's family members and assured them that the government would provide full support for the child's treatment.

The delegation conveyed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's sincere sympathy and best wishes to the family.
