CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, July 20, 2026 (BSS) - Prof. Dr. Muhammad Gias Uddin Talukder, Chairman of the Arabic Department at Chittagong University (CU) and Chairman of the Central Shari'ah Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh, is set to visit the United Kingdom on a three-day trip at the invitation of the University of Cambridge.

He will participate in the 16th Annual Gulf Research Meeting (GRM) 2026, held from July 21 to 23 at the University of Cambridge.

The matter was confirmed this morning by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shafi Ullah Kutubi of the CU Arabic Department. He said Prof. Talukder is scheduled to depart for the United Kingdom today.

Prof. Talukder received the official invitation through a letter dated March 6, signed by Dr. Oskar Ziemelis, Interim Director of the Gulf Research Centre, Cambridge. The invitation described the conference as an important platform for collaboration and exchange of ideas among international researchers.

According to the invitation letter, the international research meeting will be held at the University of Cambridge from July 21 to 23. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 4:00 pm (local time) on July 21 at the West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge.

The letter states that the conference is being organized to promote research on the Gulf region, facilitate knowledge exchange and strengthen international academic collaboration. More than 300 scholars and experts from different countries are expected to participate.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Gias Uddin Talukder will take part in the workshop titled "Gulf-South Asia Relations in an Era of Deepening Interdependence." The workshop will focus on Gulf-South Asia relations, economic cooperation, diplomacy and contemporary geopolitical developments.

The Gulf Research Meeting is held annually at the University of Cambridge and is widely recognized as one of the most prestigious international academic conferences dedicated to Gulf studies.
