CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, July 19, 2026 (BSS)- Our Green Campus, an organization of Chittagong University advocating for green environment, organized ‘Green Education and Sustainability Summit 2026’ in the campus today.
The day-long summit was held today at the auditorium of the Faculty of Business Administration. with the theme "Be Part of the Change Together, for a Greener Tomorrow."
CU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Amin and Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration Prof. Dr. Mohammad Saleh Jahur attended the event as special guests.
Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin, Chief Adviser of Our Green Campus and former Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) of CU, delivered a keynote speech titled "Understanding Green Campus."
He said, "We have named our philosophy as the green philosophy. It is a philosophy that creates a new positive relationship between you and the environment.”
The summit also featured a panel discussion on "Building a Sustainable Green Campus." Among others, University Proctor Prof. Dr. Hossain Shaid Shohrowardhy, Director of the Students' Counselling and Guidance Office Prof. Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Director of the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences Prof. Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, Dr. Md. Arifur Rahman, CUCSU General Secretary (GS) Sayed Bin Habib and Assistant General Secretary (AGS) Ayobur Rahman Tawfick addressed the programme.
Speaking as the special guest, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Al-Amin said, "Education is not confined to the acquiring knowledge alone. It becomes meaningful when it brings positive changes in people's attitude and thinking. Environmental education is one such form of education that helps transform people's lifestyles, values, and sense of responsibility, enabling them to play an effective role in environmental conservation."
He added, "Damaging the environment in the name of development and thereby putting the future at risk can never be acceptable. When we take a stand against nature, it eventually responds with severe consequences. Therefore, instead of conflicting with nature, we must ensure coexistence."
The event was also attended by Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Md. Enayet Ullah Patwary, Provost of Surya Sen Hall Professor Dr. S M Shamsul Huda and faculty members from different departments.
