8 female university students get 'Joyee Scholarship' in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 19, 2026 (BSS) - Eight meritorious female university-level 
students belonging to the insolvent families received 'Joyee Scholarship- 
2026' ceremonially in the city on Friday night.
 
The students from various universities and institutions were formally awarded 
cheques of Taka 8,000 each for the second installment at the '419th Manon 
Pather Asar' of literary organisation 'Phiredeakha' held at Idea Library on 
Central Road in the city.
 
The 'Joyee Scholarship', is being run under the patronage of American 
expatriate poet and novelist Cynthia Khan, has opened new doors of 
opportunity for talented but financially insolvent female students, a press 
release said here tonight. 
 
Presided over by Tapas Mahmud, one of the pioneers of 'Phiredeakha', the 
programme was conducted by Shakil Masud, director of 'Joyee Scholarship', 
poet and publisher. 
 
Additional DIG of Bangladesh Police and its Rangpur Range Reserve Force (RRF) 
Commandant, writer and poet Md Abdur Razzaque, writer Rezaul Karim Mukul, 
novelists and writers Nargis Akhter Banu Jharna, Nikhil Chandra Mahanta, 
Zakir Sohan, Mossarraf Hossain, Nilratan Sarkar, Mozammel Haque and Khayali 
Mostafa others were present at the time. 
 
The scholarship winner students include fourth-year student of the English 
Department of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Safa Sultana, first-
year graduate student of the Economics Department of BRUR Rasna Akhter, 
fourth-year MBBS student of Rajshahi Medical College Tasrifa Tasnim Athoi, 
third-year student of the Rangpur Government Teachers Training College Nupur 
Akhter, third-year student of the English Department of BRUR Dolna Akhter, 
first-year Honors student of Rajshahi University Mehrin Rahman Minti and 
students of the Geography and Environmental Sciences Department of BRUR 
Sangeeta Rani and Sumaiya Swarna.
 
The scholarship winner students said that they had been facing various 
obstacles in higher education due to financial hardship for a long time. 
Receiving the 'Joyee Scholarship' made their educational path easier and 
brighter.
