RAJSHAHI, July 17, 2026 (BSS)- Saplings of 24 species of trees were planted at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) on Thursday, embodying the spirit and memory of July.

Teachers and students of RUET joined the tree plantation programme organized by Rajshahi City Council on the university campus.

Director of RUET's Directorate of Student Welfare Professor Dr Md Rabiul Islam Sarkar attended the programme as the chief guest. He underscored the importance of tree plantation for environmental conservation and urged students to plant and nurture more trees.

He said the initiative, taken as part of the tree plantation programme announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in July, reflects social responsibility and the commitment of the new generation towards building a greener Bangladesh.

Rajshahi City Council President Talha Bin Kabir said the symbolic plantation of 24 species of trees represents the spirit of the July movement and a commitment to creating a green future amid growing environmental challenges.

Organizers said the programme aimed to raise awareness about environmental protection and inspire people to plant and care for trees.

The RUET administration has also taken an initiative to plant 5,000 more trees on the campus in continuation of the tree plantation programme.
