JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, July 15, 2026 (BSS) - Young organisers from different voluntary organisations at Jahangirnagar University (JU) today pledged to strengthen the anti-corruption social movement and work collectively to promote institutional good governance.

The commitment came at a workshop titled "Sustainable Development and Institutional Good Governance: Role of Young Organisers", organised by the university's Youth Engagement and Support (YES) Group, formed with the inspiration of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), at the seminar room of Zahir Raihan Auditorium on the campus.

More than 50 representatives from 30 voluntary organisations of the university participated in the workshop.

Addressing the programme as the chief guest, JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan said corruption has long been weakening state institutions and the country has yet to free itself from its adverse impacts despite decades of independence.

"Now is the time to fulfill our civic responsibilities from our respective positions and make all state institutions, including public service providers, more effective. Young people must lead this initiative alongside the authorities and citizens," he said.

Among others, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Md Shamsul Alam, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Professor Dr Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Treasurer Professor Dr M Abdur Rab, Proctor Professor Dr A K M Rashidul Alam, YES Group advisers Professor Dr Mohammad Sazedur Rahman and Assistant Professor Tamanna Aziz Tuli also addressed the workshop.

TIB Civic Engagement Coordinator Md Atikur Rahman conducted the keynote session, focusing on corruption prevention, institutional good governance and its components, governance deficits and their impacts, sustainable development, strong and effective institutions, and the implementation of the Right to Information Act.

The speakers stressed that good governance must be practised at every level to effectively combat corruption, adding that today's youth should prepare themselves as responsible citizens and play a leading role in building a corruption-free Bangladesh.

At the end of the workshop, participants took a joint oath to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promote institutional good governance through their respective organisations and strengthen the anti-corruption social movement.
