DHAKA, July 15, 2026 (BSS) – State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit today said the government is working with the highest commitment to alleviate the suffering of all flood victims, regardless of their ethnicity or community.
"Whether they are members of the hill communities, Bengalis or any other group, everyone has been equally affected by the heavy rainfall and flash floods. There will be no discrimination, and the government is making every effort to ease the hardship of all flood victims," he told journalists while distributing relief among flood-hit people in the Amtali Para area of Bandarban municipality.
Mentioning that he visited Bandarban on the instructions of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to assess the condition of the affected people and oversee the relief efforts, the state minister said, "The government will not leave any flood-affected person without assistance."
He said that since the first day of the flooding, the local lawmaker, district administration, district police and other government agencies have been carrying out rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations.
"Cooked meals are being provided to people staying in flood shelters, while dry food is being distributed to those outside the shelters," he said, adding that medical teams are also working to ensure healthcare services for flood-affected people.
Anindya Islam said food assistance and subsidised food distribution programmes would be launched within the next few days, enabling flood victims to purchase essential commodities at affordable prices and reducing their financial burden.
He also said the government would gradually repair or rebuild houses damaged or destroyed by the floods so that affected families could return to their homes and resume normal life as soon as possible.
Among others, Bandarban lawmaker Saching Pru Jerry, reserved-seat MP for the three hill districts Advocate Madhabi Marma, Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr Md Ziauddin, Deputy Commissioner Md Saniul Ferdous, Superintendent of Police Md Wabul Islam Khondkar and Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Shaheen Hossain Chowdhury were present.
