Cabinet committee reviews draft Cyber Security (Amendment) Act 2026

DHAKA, July 15, 2026 (BSS) - A meeting of the cabinet committee formed to review and finalise the draft of the “Cyber Security (Amendment) Act, 2026” was held today at the conference room of the Posts and Telecommunications Division at the Secretariat.

The meeting, chaired by Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam, MP, who is the convener of the committee, held detailed discussions on various provisions of the draft Cyber Security (Amendment) Act, 2026, said a PID release.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yeaser Yasser Khan Choudhury, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam and the Prime Minister's Adviser on the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Science and Technology Rehan Asif Asad attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed necessary amendments and recommendations aimed at addressing the rapid changes in information technology, strengthening cyber security, protecting citizens' rights and ensuring a secure environment for digital services.

Following the discussion, various recommendations were made to make the draft law more up-to-date, effective and practical. The committee also decided to hold another meeting to finalise the draft law after incorporating the recommendations.
