KHULNA, July 14, 2026 (BSS) – Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) and Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) today jointly organised a tree plantation programme on the university campus as part of Tree Plantation Week-2026 to promote environmental conservation, expand greenery and raise awareness about the adverse impacts of climate change.
KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Maksud, KMP Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan, and Commandant (DIG) of Police Training Centre (PTC), Khulna, AKM Mosharraf Hossain Miazi, inaugurated the programme by planting saplings on the campus.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said a tree not only helps maintain ecological balance but also lays the foundation for a safer world for future generations.
He urged people from all walks of life to take part in tree plantation and conservation efforts to protect the environment.
Prof Maksud said KUET has been implementing various initiatives to develop a green, clean and environment-friendly campus.
He also thanked KMP for joining hands with the university in observing Tree Plantation Week-2026.
Among others, KMP Deputy Police Commissioner (North Division) Sudarshan Kumar Roy, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (North) Zakia Sultana, Assistant Police Commissioner (Daulatpur Zone) Shihab Karim, Assistant Police Commissioner (Staff Officer) Md Golam Morshed and other senior police officials attended the programme.
On behalf of KUET, deans of different faculties, directors of institutes, the registrar, heads of departments, office chiefs, teachers, officers and employees participated in the event.
As part of the programme, indigenous, fruit-bearing, forest and medicinal tree saplings were planted at different locations across the campus.
Speakers said such joint initiatives by educational institutions and law enforcement agencies would help spread positive messages on environmental conservation and sustainable development while encouraging future generations to become more environmentally conscious.
The programme concluded with a call for every citizen to plant and nurture at least one tree to help build a greener and more livable Bangladesh.
