Jahangirnagar University, July 12, 2026 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of former Acting President, former Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Language Movement veteran and BNP National Standing Committee member Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar. 

In a condolence message, the Vice-Chancellor described Barrister JamiruddinSircar as an experienced, wise and devoted political leader who made significant contributions to the country's democratic and parliamentary system. 

He said, “Jamiruddin Sircar discharged his responsibilities as Acting President and Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad with honesty and wisdom and he maintained it throughout his long and distinguished political career.” 

The Vice-Chancellor said the nation had lost a renowned statesman and guardian with his passing. 

He conveyed heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul. 

Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar died early this morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital. He was 94.
