TANGAIL, July 11, 2026 (BSS) - Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam, MP, today stressed the need for coordinated efforts to improve healthcare services while chairing a meeting of the District Hospital Management Committee at Tangail 250-bed General Hospital.
The meeting discussed in detailed on the hospital's overall activities, improvement of healthcare services, ensuring a patient-friendly environment, attendance of doctors and health workers, medicine supply, availability of medical equipment, cleanliness, security and infrastructure development, said a ministry press release.
Faqir Mahbub Anam, also Minister for Science and Technology said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has attached the utmost importance to the health sector.
Mentioning that healthcare is a fundamental right of the people; he said that the government is giving the highest priority to transforming district hospitals into more effective, clean and people-friendly service centres.
The minister said improved healthcare services could be ensured through the collective efforts of doctors, nurses, officers, employees and all members of the hospital management committee.
Necessary initiatives would be taken in phases to identify and resolve the shortage of doctors, equipment, manpower and technicians, as well as infrastructure-related problems, including lifts, he said.
Faqir Mahbub Anam said there is no scope for negligence in ensuring prompt and quality treatment at the emergency department, treating patients with compassion and maintaining cleanliness at the hospital.
“Everyone must sincerely perform their responsibilities so that patients are not subjected to harassment and receive the services they expect”, he said.
The minister said: “The government's necessary cooperation and policy support would continue. However, sincerity, accountability and coordinated initiatives of all concerned are the most important factors in improving the quality of healthcare services. Everyone must work together to earn the confidence of the people.”
Speaking as the vice-chairman of the management committee, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku, MP, said the Tangail 250-bed General Hospital is a very important healthcare centre for the people of the district as well as the surrounding areas. Therefore, doctors, nurses and health workers must ensure services with sincerity, responsibility and humanity, he said.
The government is working to overcome manpower and infrastructure limitations, he said, adding that ensuring quality and hassle-free healthcare services for the people is the shared commitment of all.
After the meeting, the minister exchanged views with journalists on various issues relating to the hospital.
With Hospital Superintendent Dr Khandakar Sadikur Rahman in the chair, the meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police of Tangail, local leaders of DAB, representatives of the health department, hospital authorities and members of the District Hospital Management Committee.
