DHAKA, July 10, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Army has been deployed under "In Aid to Civil Power" to assist the civil administration in tackling the flash flood situation caused by heavy rainfall and hill overspill in Chattogram district.

An Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release, issued today, said, following an urgent request from the Chattogram Deputy Commissioner, the Bangladesh Army's 10 Infantry Division and 24 Infantry Division are conducting search, rescue and relief operations in several flood-affected upazilas.

Continuous heavy rainfall and hill runoff have caused extensive flooding in four upazilas of Chattogram -- Lohagara, Satkania, Chandanaish and Banshkhali. 

As a result, nearly 400,000 people in these areas have been severely affected and stranded by floodwaters. In response to the crisis, the 10 Infantry Division has urgently deployed rescue teams along with the necessary equipment to the affected areas.

Meanwhile, heavy monsoon rainfall has also triggered severe flooding in Boalkhali, Hathazari and Fatikchhari upazilas of Chattogram. Army personnel from the 24 Infantry Division have been deployed in these upazilas to carry out emergency rescue and relief operations.

The Bangladesh Army is continuing search and rescue operations to assist people stranded in the affected areas. 

To ensure the prompt and orderly execution of rescue and relief efforts, the 24 Infantry Division has already established three camps in the flood-hit areas.

As always, the Bangladesh Army remains committed to working alongside the civil administration during natural disasters across the country to protect the lives and property of the people and the operations will continue until the safety of the affected communities is ensured and the overall situation returns to normal, the press release said.
