DU Pro-VC receives National Environment Award

DHAKA, July 9, 2026 (BSS) – Dhaka University (DU) Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Abdus Salam has received the National Environment Award 2025. 

The Prime Minister handed over the award to him while inaugurating the national programme today, marking World Environment Day 2026 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.

Prof. Salam received the award in the Research and Technology Innovation category in recognition of his outstanding contributions to environmental research and technological innovation.

Prof. Salam, who is also a professor in the Department of Chemistry at DU, has been conducting research on the environment, air pollution and related technologies for nearly 25 years. 

Through his high-impact international research on air pollution, atmospheric science, climate change and public health, he has made significant contributions to improving air quality in Bangladesh, identifying pollution sources and developing innovative technologies.

A large number of his research papers have been published in renowned national and international journals. He has also participated in numerous national and international conferences and workshops. 

Following the announcement of the award, teachers and officials of Dhaka University congratulated Prof. Salam and presented him with bouquets. 

This year, three individuals and three organisations received the National Environment Award 2025 in recognition of their outstanding contributions to environmental conservation, environmental education and awareness, and environmental research and technological innovation.
