DHAKA, July 5, 2026 (BSS) - BNP-backed teachers' association at Dhaka University (DU), the White Panel, today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of former DU Bangla Department Chairman and Bangla Academy President Professor Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq. 

A condolence message, issued by Convener Professor Dr. Md. Morshed Hasan Khan and Joint Conveners Professor Dr. Abdus Salam and Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Sarker, said the university and the entire nation will remember his outstanding contributions to the Bengali language, literature, education and national intellectual practices with deep respect.

Professor Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq passed away at 2:30 pm today while undergoing treatment at the National Heart Foundation. 

He was 86. 

He left behind his wife, only daughter Professor Dr. Shuchita Sharmin of DU Development Studies Department, and a host of well-wishers to mourn his death.

The White Panel, in the condolence message, prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extended sympathies to the bereaved family members, colleagues, former and current students and well-wishers.
