DHAKA, July 2, 2026 (BSS) - The Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) has instructed government primary schools to implement 'Learning Through Play' (khelar chole shekha) activities, including drawing, clay modelling and making various craft items, to ensure students’ timely attendance and prevent dropout.
The directive was issued recently by the Policy and Operation Division of the DPE.
According to the directive, the initiative has been undertaken under the "Learning with Happiness (Anondomoy Shikkha)" programme as part of the government's 180-day action plan for implementing its election manifesto.
It said teacher guides developed by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) for Fine Arts and Crafts subjects from Classes I to V are currently available.
Based on these guides, students should be encouraged to draw various class-appropriate pictures.
The directive also instructed schools to engage students in making different items with clay and arrange exhibitions of their artwork in classrooms to help motivate them and build their self-confidence.
It further said teachers should conduct these activities in a joyful and participatory classroom environment so that students perceive schools as safe and welcoming places.
This, it added, is expected to increase their interest in attending school regularly.
