Four BRUR students get 'Hasna Elahi Memorial Scholarship'

RANGPUR, July 1, 2026 (BSS) - Four meritorious female students of different 
departments under the Faculty of Social Sciences of Begum Rokeya University, 
Rangpur (BRUR) have been awarded a one-time 'Hasna Elahi Memorial 
Scholarship' ceremonially.
 
As per the MoU between BRUR and K Mushtaq and Hasna Elahi Foundation, the 
cheques and certificates of this scholarship were distributed among the four 
students in the Syndicate Room of the University's Administrative Building on 
Wednesday.
 
Vice-chancellor (VC) of the university Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali as the 
chief guest distributed the cheques and certificates of the scholarship among 
the four female students for the academic year 2020-21. 
 
The students are: Firoza Akhter (CGPA 3.86) of the Department of Economics, 
Urmi Rani Roy (CGPA 3.86) of the Department of Economics, Nahida Hasan Deepa 
(CGPA 3.78) of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism and 
Marjana Akhter Iti (CGPA 3.67) of the Department of Public Administration 
under the Faculty of Social Sciences. 
 
Addressing the occasion, the VC said that providing such scholarships to 
promote women's education and evaluate their merit is a very commendable 
initiative. 
 
"This scholarship will motivate the students more in their studies and in the 
future they will play a role in the welfare of the society and the country," 
he said.
 
Prof Showkat Ali also called on all levels of society and foundations to come 
forward to improve the quality of education and research at the university. 
 
Former Prof of Bloomsburg University in the United States and founder of the 
"K Mushtaq and Hasna Elahi Foundation" Prof Dr K Mushtaq Elahi addressed the 
function as a special guest. 
 
He said that the main goal of this scholarship is to encourage talented 
female students to pursue higher education. 
 
"I hope that such initiatives will continue for the welfare of students on 
behalf of the foundation in the future," he added. 
 
Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Dr Md Nazrul Islam presided over 
the event participated by the heads of various departments under the Faculty 
of Social Sciences, teachers and concerned officials of the university.
