DHAKA, June 26, 2026 (BSS) - Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today said the government is hopeful of bringing back the accused in the Osman Hadi murder case from India.
The home minister said the Indian government had arrested three suspected killers of Osman Hadi, and they were probably in Kolkata.
“A case has been filed against them with a court as per the law. We have already sent the necessary documents related to the case, as per the agreement (with India), through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he said.
“We are waiting and hoping to get them back. Besides, we will be able to submit the charge sheet after completing the investigation into the case,” Salahuddin said.
He made the comments while talking to reporters after attending a meeting at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium here.
The meeting was organised marking the 'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2026'.
Replying to a question, he said after former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed was arrested in the UAE, the Federal Police of Abu Dhabi informed the Bangladesh government about his arrest through an email.
He said the UAE authorities sought documents regarding Benazir within 30 days, and the Bangladesh authorities prepared them within three days and sent the documents to the UAE government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The home minister said, “We have not been informed about the Benazir issue by the UAE government yet. But we hope that we will be informed very soon.”
Responding to another query about the border issue, he said Bangladesh has not allowed a single person to be pushed across the border and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) remains alert.
“We have made a diplomatic call to India that if any Bangladeshi is there, India can provide a list through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Salahuddin said.
He said once India sends the list, Bangladesh will take steps after verifying it.
