RUET earns international recognition in THE Impact Rankings 2026

RAJSHAHI, June 24, 2026 (BSS)- Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) has been listed in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, which evaluates the contributions of higher education institutions worldwide toward implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Based on sustainable development, research, education, social engagement, and institutional activities, RUET secured a position in the 601–800 bands globally in this international rating.

The UK-based higher education organization Times Higher Education (THE) publishes this evaluation annually.

Previously known as THE Impact Rankings, this rating is currently the only international assessment system in the world that works on universities’ real contributions and inclusion in achieving the 17 SDGs declared by the United Nations.

In this year’s ranking, 1,646 universities from 116 countries and regions around the world were included.

Participating universities were evaluated on various indicators including research, education, social responsibility, environmental conservation, institutional policy, and international collaboration.

Based on these indicators, RUET achieved an overall score of 60.7–66.1 points.

According to the ratings, RUET scored 47.5–53.6 in Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).

In individual SDGs, it scored 68.5–74 in Quality Education (SDG 4), 58.7–67.2 in Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), and 55.4–59.8 in Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7).

This international recognition reflects RUET’s activities and commitment in the areas of education, safe water and sanitation, and clean energy.

Commenting on RUET’s achievement, Director of the Office of Student Welfare Professor Dr Robiul Islam Sarker said RUET’s inclusion and global recognition in the Impact Ratings 2026 is a matter of great pride for us.

This recognition reflects RUET’s continuous efforts in sustainable development, education, research, innovation, environmental conservation, and social responsibility.

He further added being evaluated on the same platform as universities from different countries around the world is an important milestone in our journey forward.

This achievement will further inspire our teachers, students, and researchers, and will help strengthen RUET’s position globally in the future through new initiatives in sustainable development and research.

A total of 22 universities from Bangladesh made it into the 2026 rankings. These include renowned public and private higher education institutions such as the University of Dhaka, Khulna University, BRAC University, and North South University.

The THE Sustainability Impact Ratings primarily emphasize research, institutional management, social engagement, and teaching in evaluating university activities.

Under this framework, the role of universities in the 17 goals declared by the United Nations—including quality education, poverty alleviation, clean energy, combating climate change, sustainable industry and innovation, environmental conservation, and social development—is taken into consideration.

This type of international recognition is particularly significant for engineering and technology-based higher education institutions.

Modern engineering education prioritizes technology-based solutions for renewable energy, eco-friendly infrastructure, sustainable urbanization, and climate issues.

RUET’s achievement has added a new dimension to the country’s engineering education landscape.

As the only representative among the country’s engineering universities in this prestigious international assessment, RUET’s position has further strengthened the university’s global identity.
