DHAKA, June 13, 2026 (BSS) - Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman today stressed the need for creating a conducive work environment to discourage the outflow of talented engineers and harness their expertise and innovative capabilities for the country's development and industrialization.

"The government is placing importance on increasing employment opportunities, expanding technology-based education and adopting innovation-friendly action plans to achieve this goal," he told the closing ceremony of the "IEB Job Fair and Project Competition 2026" at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in the capital.

The minister said Bangladeshi engineers have consistently played a leading role through their talent, wisdom, hard work, patriotism and professional competence. However, he said, a major challenge for the country is that many talented engineers choose to settle abroad after acquiring higher education and professional skills.

"As the country advances in development, industrialization and technological progress, it is essential to retain this skilled workforce at home," he said.

Referring to the proposed budget for FY2026-27 , the minister said the education sector has received the highest priority, with special emphasis on technical and technological education.
Calling upon engineers to contribute from within the country, he said they can play a vital role in developing new technologies, accelerating industrialization and modernizing agriculture.

The minister said the government's objective is to create a working environment where engineers can fully utilize their talent and creativity for national development. Opportunities for innovation, research and technology-based employment will be further expanded, he added.

Highlighting the importance of transparency, accountability and cost-efficiency in implementing development projects, Asaduzzaman said projects financed by taxpayers' money must be planned and executed with the highest degree of responsibility. He also stressed the need to keep project costs reasonable.

The law minister said engineers are making significant contributions to the construction of modern, safe and environment-friendly infrastructure across the country.

He praised their role in ensuring earthquake resilience, safety standards, proper ventilation and environmental considerations in building construction.

Describing engineers as key partners of the government in building a prosperous Bangladesh, he said the government is working to transform the country's human resources into world-class assets, and cooperation from engineers is indispensable in this journey.

Chaired by IEB President Engineer Mohammad Riazul Islam (Reju), it was also addressed by IEB General Secretary Engineer Dr Md Sabbir Mostafa Khan, Convener of the Job Fair and Project Competition Management Sub-Committee Engineer Niaz Uddin Bhuiyan, Co-convener Engineer Sabir Ahmed Osmani and Member Secretary Engineer Israt Jahan (Jesmin).

Students from different universities and educational institutions, young and experienced engineers, representatives of industrial organizations and other stakeholders attended the programme.

The IEB Job Fair and Project Competition 2026 created opportunities for young engineers to enhance their skills, explore employment prospects and showcase innovative projects.

Speakers expressed hope that such initiatives would play an important role in developing the country's engineering sector and strengthening industry-academia collaboration.
