Objective journalism key to nat'l progress: Yasser

DHAKA, June 13, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury today underscored that objective, honest and responsible journalism is essential for strengthening national development, democratic progress and public trust in the media.

He made the remarks while speaking at a programme marking the 15th anniversary of private television channel GTV (Gazi Television) held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Segunbagicha here.

On the occasion, the state minister cut a cake to celebrate the 15th anniversary of GTV and conveyed greetings to all concerned.

He also congratulated the channel's officials, employees and viewers.

Highlighting the importance of media freedom alongside responsibility, he said the government believes in freedom of the press. 

The state minister added that responsibility is an inseparable part of this freedom. 

He stressed that the media must play a more proactive role in advancing national development, progress and democracy.

The state minister also assured continued support for sincere and courageous journalism, saying that the government always stands by those who practice truthful and objective reporting.

He called upon journalists to play a fearless role in countering misinformation and propaganda in the national interest.

Senior officials and journalists of GTV, prominent media personalities, members of the press and distinguished guests from various sectors attended the programme.
